By lock out as many people into fitness may know, is the lock out of the joints, i.e arms and legs completely strait. over the past couple of years since i have been doing kettlebell, fitness in its self is changing, from what to eat and what not, and all these different kinds of workouts. anyway...the lock out, before starting kettlebell when i use to use other weights, i was always told never to lock out the joints, as doing it can cause damage to them, so i listened because in the past i have suffered bad joints because of breakages, also at the moment doing a fitness course they say don't lock out the joints during exercise, in a way i don't blame some people who use this method as its what they have been taught to use by other professionals and so on.
Now..in the KB world you may notice many people use the lock out position, when i first started when i thought isn't that suppose to be bad? after i would say a few months i started getting in more advance moves, which....i will now explain...needed that lockout position. As an example, when it comes to moves like the Turkish Get Up, trying to get up from the floor with your elbow slightly bent just seems to make you unstable, and more likely to topple over or worse drop the bell on your head, now that would be nasty!
so yes i did end up using the lock out position in the moves, and in all honesty, i found much better stabilization when performing the exercises, my arm was completely under control the whole time and was able to focus more on the movement, so it does work!!
And finally what about my joints? by now they should be trashed? well i tell you there not, for about a year and a half i have been using lockout on my moves now, and my joints have become much stronger and my range of motion has really improved. So..the question..Lock Out Or No Lock Out?? for me, as i have experienced both, i found doing the lock out position has helped me and i will stick to it as well, for you? well that is entirely up to you. i tried this knowing i may get injured but still went ahead but come out better than expected which was great.
so for me, its lock out..all out!!!
