Girevoy Sport Competition Training

I have recently been thinking about competing in Girevoy Sport, if you don't know what girevoy sport is or have never heard before here is a quick description from ironbellathletics.com

"Girevoy Sport is one of the toughest competitive events on the planet.  It’s also one of the most beneficial endeavors we mortals can undertake as we try to improve our physical and mental wellbeing. Yeah, it’s hard.

Unlike Hardstyle, which is more strength-oriented, Girevoy Sport (GS) involves equal parts strength/endurance/willpower.

GS, being a sport, also has ranks based on the size of the kettlebell used and the amount of reps completed in one of two events:

“Biathlon”:  total number of jerks in 10 minutes plus the total number of snatches in 10 minutes = your score

“Long Cycle Clean and Jerks” (LCCJ):  total repetitions completed in 10 minutes = your score

In addition, Girevoy Sport uses a different style of kettlebell than Hardstyle kettlebell practitioners."

I did want to compete this September (in the uk) but the date clashes with other things that have already been planned, but they said they are very confident there will be one in 2014, at least it gives me more time to train for the event.

Now i have never done anything like this before and the training for this is different than any normal workout routine, a good decent strength program is needed.
so yesterday i thought i would have a crack at doing 10 minutes of the long cycle clean and jerk (LCCJ) with 2x16kg kettlebells, in that 10 minutes i did 59reps, doing a smooth pace, trying to keep every rep the same, must i say it was pretty hot yesterday and was out in sun playing in the park with my son most of the day (so there's my excuse ;) ). Anyway..that was my first attempted, keeping that on record, then in a month or so i will attempt again, which in between i will be doing strength training, also found out that the best way to train is to do ladders, never really done them in the past in all honesty. so this will be new.

i will put updates of what workouts i may do or have done, now is the time i have really got to push my self, i would like to go heavier when competing, maybe 2x24kg, maybe more! also was thinking about raising money for charity, thats something to think about and to choose which one.

Any questions or any advice would be appreciated :)
